So Im in Yk now and I’m having a GREAT time. Although I do of course wish that Arlen was here too.

Tonight after we got back from Wal-Mart, Darla, Kurtis and I planned out the cast for a movie about Kurtis’ life. It was a pretty good time and we think we’ve got an all star cast so I thought I would share it with those that are interested…

Doug Ashby played by Tom Selleck

Cindy Ashby played by Diane Lane

Joel AShby played by Seth Rogan

Darla Kemp played by Ellen Page

Brianne Foster played by Sophia Bush

Arlen Foster played by Adam Herschman

Kurtis Ashby played by Zach Braff who just barely beat out Adam Brody

Kaleigh Ashby played by Ashlee Simpson, pre pregnancy

and

Bailey played by Toto, a Gremlin or an Ewok. Anyone of these will do.

It’s going to be an awesome movie. I can tell.

It’s been forever and I’m sick of seeing arlen’s rant about apple so I thought I’d write a quick one. For the record most of our apple problems are solved.

Life these days consists mostly of studying, writing finals, a couple DL papers, a lot of hockey watching… and we’ve managed to get in a few visits with some people that we like, which is always nice. There has been lots of family coming for visits lately which has been awesome. Grandma is definitely a loved lady. I love her, that’s for sure.

As for coming plans, we finish finals early next week and head to dauphin. We’ll hang out there for about a week. I’m hoping it’s hot and sunshiny so I can lay on the grass in the yard and have naps… with sunscreen. It would be awesome to not get a one arm sunburn this year. After that we head to calgary to hang out with friends and family, but especially to attend my cousin Laurie’s wedding. Should be a party.

After that I head up to Yk to do my internship for a month and Arlen heads back to Regina for summer school (sucker). That’ll be crazy, I’m going to miss him a lot. I am, however, looking forward to my time in yellowknife. After that I come back to hang out in my parking lot swimming pool and go to weddings.

So this is sorta a rant. You see Brianne & I splurged on a new imac last November. At first we thought it was the greatest thing. Then after about a month of enjoying this apple dream it shut-off. That’s right, the stupid computer just started randomly shutting off, in the middle of writing a final paper. I was quite livid and phoned apple-care to see what they could do. They ran about an hour of tests over the phone/internet and said the problem was fixed. But the next day, same thing, it shut-off again. So I phoned apple again and they told me to take it to a service center. They promised that it would be covered under warranty, but when I went and picked the computer up, they asked for $60.00, apparently no software problems are covered by the warranty! So I paid the money, got home and about an hour later the dang thing shut-off again! I phoned the same apple guy that i had been talking to the whole time and he apologized and said how about we give you triple the amount you paid and send your computer in again to get fixed. So finally January 29 our computer is fixed and apple has bought us a new ipod stereo thing for the APPLE ipod I got for Christmas that just randomly shut-off the other day!! No joke, but this time I blame it on the -50,000°C weather. Oh and also, our awesome “APPLE Wireless Mighty Mouse” won’t scroll up, the friggin scroller button is busted. I have a love-hate relationship with Apple I think. but mainly I hate them.

Yesterday on my way to school I saw this ginormous animal on the side of the road, between the two highways, but on the edge of mine… not quite in the ditch. At first I thought it was a big pile of brown dirt, but as I got closer I saw a face and then all of a sudden I was past it. I’m pretty sure it was a bull. I’m not sure how it got there. There were no traces of blood on the highway. I think it either wandered away from it’s nearby farmyard and was having a nap or had frozen to death OR it had rolled out of the back of the trailer on the way to the market and that is where it landed.

I tried to look for it on my way home from school, but it was late and dark and there was snow blowing around. Also the oncoming traffic didn’t appreciate my brights. brites… whatever.

Maybe it will still be there tomorrow.

If anyone knows how to make my side links go back up to the top beside my regular writing can you tell me. I dont like it at the bottom. It’s dumb.

It’s thanksgiving this weekend. My dad is coming tomorrow and we are going to go for supper. It will be nice. Then on Saturday we are going to Dauphin. We are going to move cows. Generally i’m not that good at it. I usually end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps they’ll tell me I have to stay at home. Or MAYBE i’ll get to drive the truck that has hay attached to the back, then all the cows will follow me. Or atleast the hungry ones.

It’s been so long that I actually couldn’t remember our username or password for this thing. It took me a few tries. Grandpa told me yesterday that we better get back at it. I guess since I hadn’t written for so long I thought I better write something spectacular to start it up again… That was NOT going to happen so I thought I might as well just write something so that i’ve done it and then I can write about whatever I want whenever I want.

We’re back in Regina now. Summer in Yellowknife was fantastic. The reason I didnt write wasn’t because there was nothing good to write about, but because I was doing too much good stuff to write anything at all. And I was pretty busy writing stuff for Melon. After Yk we hit up edmonton, calgary, red deer, saskatoon, dauphin and of course Regina. Good times everywhere we went with great people. I’m not even going to give the highlights – there’s too many. But one time, in Dauphin I was riding Dancer (he’s a horse) and he wiped out. Scared me a little but we were okay. Then when we got home and I got off of him and I looked and he had grass stains on his knees. That was neat.

I’m driving out to Briercrest a couple of times a week again this year. It’s pretty good. Today a truck full of people busted me rocking out. Oh well. Also i’ve never seen so much roadkill in my life. Yikes.

what a weekend we just had. Brianne and I along with a bunch of family and friends decided to go out camping for the long weekend. The weather was suppose to be great and we had packed lots of food, so i was pumped. We headed out friday nite at about 9 or 10 i think, after the riders game of course. Brianne, Melissa, Kelli and I took the 4Runner and picked up the tinny while Doug, Cindy, Kaleigh, and Nic took the truck and Bayliner. The 4Runner beat the truck, which in the end sucked cause we had to wait for almost an hour at the dock till our engine arrived for our boat. Once we had both boats in the water we tried starting the bayliner and nothing would work. Doug, being the great mechanic that he is, reassured Nic and I that he would just give it a little boost and that we should start off in the tinny since our boat was gonna be so slow. So off Nic and I went, cruising with all the food we needed for like a week of plentiful eating. We didn’t get too far though, just after we curved out of the bay and into the larger body of water where the bayliner could no longer see us, our engine suddenly roared high and the boat slowed to a penguins waddle. Nic and I immediately started figuring out a plan in case the lochness monster found us, but after about 40 mins. we saw the bayliner coming towards us and flagged it down. After dropping off his load at the cabin, Doug came back and towed us to the cabin also.

I knew they wouldn’t leave us out on the lake cause we had all the food. The bugs became really bad at one point so we smoked two cigars to keep them away, I think it took us 25 matches and finally a lighter to get them going.

Kurtis, Nic, Kelli and I went tubing, which was a blast. Then the wind picked up…ALOT! So much that Sunday morning, when we were about to leave, Kaleigh came running up and said, “umm… we sorta..have a problem.” Kurtis’s reaction was a bit different, “FRICK, DOUG, FRICK, ARLO!, FRICK, COME HERE, FRICK!!!” There might have been more fricks, not sure exactly. Anyways, the front of the dock that attaches to the rock had ripped apart from the wind and waves, and was now smashing against the rock, luckily the Bayliner was on the outside of the dock and didn’t get damaged. And the tinny, nothing can hurt the tinny, its a freakin tank.

It was a fun weekend though, lots of exiciting things happened that made it adventures. We saw no bears, no wolverines, but lots of horseflies and a few skeeters that look like small vultures. Kurtis, Nic and I tied our dingy’s together and played in the waves for awhile.  oh and nic and i built a sweet fort. its got an upstairs and downstairs.

Apparently almost 100 and they all have to be wearing black suits with red ties and silly little hats with feathers, if you’re the white stripes. Last night I did security… that’s right, security with Darla. There was also a hockey team and some other people. But Darla and me were the toughest and meanest. That’s why we were centre stage… right in the pit. Just kidding. We weren’t. We were mostly on dressing room duty. And by dressing room duty I mean outside of the dressing making sure nobody that isn’t supposed to be in there goes in. We didn’t get to sit together though. One of us was out in the outer area and one in the inner area… still outside the dressing room. ALWAYS outside the dressing room. Let’s not get confused about that.

Anyways it was a pretty good time… I think we kept things pretty secure… There was one time where the silly hat people were walking towards the dressing rooms so I let them go, and then there were 3 guys behind them so I was like oh I’ll have to check their passes… So the first one is about to go by and I was like “excuse me… can I see your pass” then it hit me “hey that is Jack White… do I ever feel like an idiot” I didn’t say that though. Instead I turned pinkish reddish and said “ha… woops. Uh… sorry… ha” something along those lines… he just shrugged, smiled, showed his pass and said something about me doing my job. The two behind him however got the boot. They had no passes so I kicked their… actually I didn’t kick them at all. I just simply told them to go outside and around to the front of the building to get in.

When the concert ended I went out of the arena and when I went back in I realized that I’d been standing in what seemed like a large hot steamy smelly boot for about 5 hours. Nasty.

It was a fun night though. Arlen secured the sound area. Him and Nic had the privilege of securing a sound guy that went on and on about how he’d worked with Gob and Avril…Blagh blagh blagh…It was fun though.

I had it out with one of the crew members a few times… I don’t know what his specific job was but he wasn’t very good at it, and he kept telling me lies, and he had a crooked goatee which I was really tempted to tell him about. But I didn’t.

p.s. The white stripes ARE brother and sister… not a husband and wife, not divorced… I cleared it up with the tour manager.

Don’t you think Jack Black and Jack White should get together for a song? I think it would be quite the special song.

YIKES! I can’t believe how long it’s been since either of us have written anything. It’s not even that nothing worth writing about has happened. That isn’t true at all. Maybe it’s that we were so busy with things that we just didn’t have time to write. Except for the last two weeks that i’ve just been a bum, hanging out at home, with mom, and melon for a while, but then she got a job too. Arlen got one after a day of looking so he’s actually got a decent excuse i guess. BUT now i have a job too. I just don’t know when it starts. Ha. Atleast I dont have to keep looking. But since it’s been so long and I dont really have anything exciting to share about today I will do a little update. Both the highs and lows.

-Exams. This was a low. Who enjoys exams? Seriously. Well not me and arlen. That’s for sure. But we made it through, and I think we did pretty well. Of course Arlen’s were quite a bit more stressful than mine, and his were crammed into only like 3 days or something. But he can tell you the difference between hinduisim and buddhism AND what a giga is.

-Distance Classes. This was even lower. DLs might be the worst thing ever. When you try to do them in 2 weeks. Also made it through and those are done.

-The farm. We spent about a week there and it was GREAT. We had a lot of fun playing outside, shooting things. Arlen shot 2 gophers with one bullet. At one time. He also shot other things. a Coyote that bled all over the quad I was driving. A bit gross for me. Also Tim and Melon and Jon came over and we played on the farm all day. Some baby cows were born. And I worked on my distance class a lot. Also we got in some dutch blitz and crow with arlen’s parents. They took good care of us.

-Pete and Chelsey and Eva. They are fabulous. It was soooo good to see them and spend time with them and meet Eva and play with Eva. She helped me build my pipes that week too. For sure. She’s adorable. And it had been far too long since i’d seen chelsey. She’s my twin. And we had our very first bridesmaiding experience together. Which was nice since the rest of the b.m’s were quite experienced. But I think we did alright. We listened way better than the boys. That’s for sure.

-Aaron and Kelli’s wedding was on May 5th and was definitely a highlight of the past month. They are very good friends of ours and it was so fun to be there when they got married and share in that day with them. I couldn’t really think of a non-cliche way to say that. But i do really mean it. The day was a blast, actually the whole weekend that lead up to it was! We got to see some old friends that we hadn’t in a while (for example john and kirsty, ben and katie, etc…) and meet new ones (for example vanessa). The bride and groom looked stunning and it was just a really great time!

-The roadtrip. It was long. But we survived and I think we even had quite a bit of fun for the most part. We left regina at 1030 on sunday morning and drove straight to hay river, nt. some tips: don’t eat at wendy’s in lloydminster. Just don’t. Always have sunglasses on hand and try to avoid driving west at sunset and east at sunrise. Somehow I managed to do both and Melon and I thought we were going to burn our eyes off. The petro canada on the yellowhead in edmonton is right behind the giant mcdonald’s sign. without knowing that you will miss it. two years in a row. tim hortons in peace river is only open until 11 NOT 12. Avoid prepackaged sandwiches at IGA in peace river… AND try to time it so that you dont get to hay river before the airport even opens only to find that the early flights are full.

-Yellowknife. We made it and it has been great minus the snow and cold. I’m staying positive and hoping that it might get above 10 this weekend though! WAHOO! It’s been great to see people. Looking for jobs was a lowlight, but i think we’ve gottem now and so that’s done. Kaleigh’s grad also took place… It was a classic Sir John Grad. She looked smokin hot though. Pizza night tonight. I’ve been looking forward to this since… december I guess. For those that have experienced it i’m sure you know why. For those that haven’t you are missing out!

This is the longest blog i’ve ever written I bet. A lot of it was pointless too, but whatever. It’s been over a month. We have lots to look forward to over the next little bit so maybe we can blog about things as they happen instead of in one large summary at the end of summer… Next to come: Carly, then Kelli, Beckie and possibly olas.

my petit bro kurtis has a new blog. check it out. i dont know how to link it from my post but it is under my blogroll…turdis. you’ll find it. he’ll likely have some sweet stuff to share. he’s a good dude. hopefully he’ll update more than dad.
